Aubertine and Currier was hired in 2000 to provide design build services for a 4,100 sf church with an attached parish hall. The original historic church and parish hall were destroyed by fire in the fall of 1999. The design of the building was to be kept within the historic atmosphere of the surrounding buildings in the village of Cape Vincent.
The vestry requested that the sanctuary be a flexible space with the ability to accommodate larger services for the holidays. Folding partitions were utilized to open the sanctuary into the parish hall therefore doubling the seating capacity. The steeple is over sixty feet tall and located above a large open vestibule and bell tower.
Halfway through construction the Owner purchased a large pipe organ and with some structural modifications, it was incorporated into the project. It appears as if it were part of the original design.
The windows were designed to accept several restored stained glass panels that had been saved from the existing church as well as additional panels donated by parishioners.
The kitchen cabinetry was custom built for maximum storage capacity. The church was designed with custom wood exposed ceiling trusses, railings and balusters. Other features of the design included standing seam metal roofing, energy efficient lighting, a high efficiency gas boiler with multi-zone radiant in-floor heating system and air conditioning, and a super insulated building envelope.
